Our overarching goal for the elementary school students is to have fun!

Project Details

Members are split into the study group and the outdoor sports group. Study group members support elementary school students with their homework and any concerns they have, at the elementary school library. The outdoor sports group is focused on the promotion of physical activity. Specifically, they play soccer, basketball, dodgeball, and tag.

“What is something that you have realized or learned through this activity?”

・The challenge of managing the elementary school students as a group! Each of these young students has a different idea of what they want to do, and it is sometimes not possible to take into account all of the diverse ideas while engaging in a group activity. I have a renewed respect for elementary school teachers!

・I learned just how active elementary school students are, and that each student has a unique opinion or idea. Because the activity period is limited, sometimes the students’ opinions clash, and there are some elementary school students who end up not being able to do exactly what they want.

・I found that if we high school students make the elementary school students do certain physical activities they are uninterested in, they cannot truly feel the joy of sports. Therefore, we let elementary students choose the activities. Now, high school students support the younger ones in their chosen activities, teaching them new tricks they might not have been exposed to yet.

・Elementary school students have an enormous amount of energy! It takes a lot to run around with them, and quite frankly, I feel that I am getting old (LOL)…

“What are the next steps for you?”

・I would like to help with the tutoring. Also, as the number of high school students involved in this project has grown, it would be great to increase the number of elementary school students. This way, we could have multiple simultaneous activities. Outside of this project, I would like to develop my ability to select wisely one out of many opinions. Also, I want to continue to take on new challenges!

・I would like to use the lessons I have gained through this activity in out-of-school opportunities.

・I would like to continue to develop my communication skills.
