On July 14–15, two Grade 10 students, Mr. Fujimura and Miss Miyahara, represented Linden Hall School at the Global Nature Positive Summit 2026, held at Kumamoto Castle Hall.

The summit is an international conference that brings together representatives from businesses, government agencies, universities, research institutes, and educational organizations to share initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity and restoring natural capital in pursuit of a Nature Positive future.

The two students gave a 10-minute presentation at the booth of Kyushu University and Umitsunagi, organizations that have maintained a long-standing partnership with our school.

They introduced the environmental projects they have undertaken through Linden Hall's environmental education program, including research on microplastics collected from local beaches and the development of bioplastics, as well as the personal insights and changes in perspective these experiences have inspired.

These projects have also been recognized by The Nippon Foundation's Ocean Education Pioneer School Program, which supports innovative marine and environmental education initiatives across Japan.

On the following day, the students also participated in a youth side event, where they exchanged ideas with other young participants, shared their experiences, and discussed how future generations can contribute to building a Nature Positive society.

Reflecting on the summit, the students commented:

"Learning about so many different environmental initiatives was truly inspiring. I was amazed by the incredible work being carried out by other youth organizations. I'd like to share what I learned with more young people through social media."

"Receiving advice from professionals in industry was extremely valuable. I'd like to continue improving the quality of the bioplastics we have developed."

Presenting their work to an audience of researchers, business leaders, and government officials from Japan and overseas gave the students a valuable opportunity to realize that the knowledge and skills they develop in school can have a meaningful impact on society.

We hope the ideas, experiences, and new connections they gained through the summit will inspire them to continue their inquiry and take further action toward creating a future where people and nature can thrive together.
