On the 29th of April, Linden Hall High School was host to the 2025 World Scholar’s Cup (henceforth WSC) Kyushu tournament, which was attended by students from as far as Osaka and Hyogo. A heated battle ensued for the entire day.
*It is possible to join regional tournaments from anywhere across the country.
The WSC, which started in Korea in 2006, is a comprehensive contest of education, currently boasting more than 50 participating countries. The domestic tournament in Japan started in 2012.
This year as well, many middle and high school students participated with the aim of attending the international contest, which aims to build international understanding through communication between middle and high school students throughout the world.
In this contest with three members to a team, Linden Hall entered with two teams, with one team consisting of Okamoto Yuuki, Erdenekhuu Munkh-Orchlon, and Chen HouQuan of grade 9, as well as a team consisting of Dakin Hal of grade 11, and Nozomu Ro and Ran JiaQi of grade 12.
With each team acting as one, they took on the challenges of writing and debate, as well as a quiz.
Top performers of the WSC domestic tournament are granted eligibility for participation in the international tournament, with top performers in the international tournament further being granted eligibility for the champion tournament held at Yale University in the United States.
And now, both teams of Linden Hall have achieved eligibility to participate in the international tournaments! (collective 4th place, with an individual 2nd place for writing)
In addition, Linden Hall High School, which played host to the previous tournament, has now formed an executive committee for the Kyushu tournament.
With the executive committee chair, Ishibashi Taiki, at the center, the sight of the committee assisting the tournament from preparations to management to clean-up, all from the shadow, has proven very encouraging.
To those who were involved in the tournament from early in the morning, and to those involved in the executive committee, good work indeed.
We look forward to the achievements of those students involved in the Kyushu tournament moving forward.
