On Tuesday, July 21, our Grade 11 students visited the Fukuoka Municipal Welfare Center for Persons with Physical and Mental Disabilities to learn about the wide range of support services provided for children and individuals with disabilities.

During the visit, students toured facilities offering services in areas such as hearing and speech support, visual support, and early childhood intervention. They also observed how these services are provided and gained a deeper understanding of the work carried out by professionals in the field.

Staff members explained the recent increase in the number of first-time child consultations and shared data on trends by age group and referral route. Through these discussions, students learned about current challenges and developments in the field of welfare and support services.

After the visit, one student commented:

“I was impressed by how the staff work together and continually adapt their approaches to meet the diverse needs of each child. It was inspiring to see the level of care and cooperation within the center.”

By visiting an actual support facility and learning firsthand about its work and the challenges it faces, students gained valuable insights that will help deepen their understanding of social welfare and inclusive support.

We hope this experience will encourage our students to continue strengthening their connections with society, deepen their understanding of people with diverse needs, and develop the ability to think independently and take positive action.
